Super Falcons forward Chioma Okafor has opened up about her decision to represent Nigeria instead of Malawi, citing her ambition to compete at the highest level of international football.
The young attacker, who is eligible to play for both countries through her Nigerian father and Malawian mother, will officially be cap-tied to Nigeria if she features in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against Morocco on Saturday—even if it’s just for a moment.
Speaking in an interview with Ademola Victor TV, Okafor expressed gratitude to her Super Falcons teammates for making her feel at home.

“Since the first day I stepped into camp, they’ve been so welcoming. It feels like I have 23 sisters—always talking to me, looking out for me. I really thank them for that,” she said.
Reflecting on her choice, Okafor admitted it wasn’t an easy decision.
“It wasn’t easy. I had to play with players who are better than me so I could grow. Malawi will get there eventually, but time keeps moving. I couldn’t keep waiting—I had to seize the opportunity.”
