Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that only a serious injury would make him consider retirement, sharing that he played through an existing injury during Portugal’s UEFA Nations League final against Spain.
The 40-year-old Al Nassr striker explained that the injury wasn’t severe enough to stop him from giving his all for his country. Ronaldo scored the crucial equalizer that pushed the match into extra time, helping Portugal eventually secure their second Nations League title with a 5-4 win on penalties in Germany.

Speaking after the game, Ronaldo said,
“I felt the injury since the warm-up; it’s been bothering me for a while. But for Portugal, if I had to break my leg, I would do it. It’s a title—I had to play and gave everything.”

He also acknowledged that the end of his career is drawing nearer but insisted he has no plans to retire just yet.
“You know how old I am already. Obviously, I’m closer to the end than I was at the beginning, but I have to enjoy every moment.”
