Filmmaker Toyin Abraham has revealed the title of her new movie, Oversabi Aunty, which will be released in December. The film promises to be a humorous and educational cinematic experience.
The 42-year-old announced the project on Instagram on Monday, sharing a colourful teaser poster with the title “Oversabi Aunty,” a nickname she playfully called herself during the wedding of her colleague Iyabo Ojo’s daughter, Priscilla Ojo.
“Get familiar with this title… and yes, call me Over Sabi Aunty! 💃💃💃 This one is packed with plenty laughter and plenty of life lessons! 🎬🔥,” she wrote in the caption, accompanied by the hashtags, with one revealing the month.

While Toyin has not yet confirmed whether the film will be released in cinemas, on Netflix, or other platforms, anticipation is already building among her fans, especially after her recent string of box office successes.
In December 2024, Toyin released Alakada: Bad and Boujee, the fifth installment of her popular Alakada series. The comedy opened to a record N134 million in its first week and went on to gross over N500 million, making it one of the highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time.
Prior to that, in December 2023, she starred in and produced Malaika, a supernatural drama that brought in around N300 million at the box office.

Her versatility was also on display in House of Ga’a, a historical drama set in the Oyo Empire, which premiered on Netflix in July 2024 under the direction of Bolanle Austen-Peters. Most recently, Toyin featured in Iyalode, which premiered in cinemas on June 6, further cementing her presence across both the comedy and drama genres.
The December 2024 festive season proved to be a landmark month for Nollywood, generating over N2.8 billion in box office revenue. Leading the charge was Funke Akindele’s Everybody Loves Jenifa, which made history as the fastest Nollywood film to gross N500 million and later surpassed N1 billion by year-end.
Toyin’s Alakada: Bad and Boujee, released on December 20, contributed significantly to the holiday boom, grossing over N205 million before the close of December.
Other major releases included Jade Osiberu’s Christmas in Lagos, Mercy Aigbe’s Thin Line and Femi Adebayo’s Seven Doors, which showcased Nollywood’s growing diversity in genre and storytelling.
