Manchester City’s new signing Tijjani Reijnders marked his Premier League debut with a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win at Wolves, but the Dutch midfielder insisted he “can do better.”

Handed a starting spot by Pep Guardiola, Reijnders set up Erling Haaland’s opener before finishing off a blistering counterattack to double City’s lead. His performance earned him the Premier League’s Player of the Match award.

“It’s a really nice start, of course, to begin with a goal and an assist in the Premier League—it’s something you always dream about,” Reijnders told City’s website. “But it can be better. I always step on the pitch with a smile, I love playing football, and I want to show that to the fans.”

The 27-year-old joined City from AC Milan in a €55m deal, two years after leaving AZ Alkmaar, and admitted he is still adapting. “The first game of the season, you don’t know how the opponent will play. Wolves pressed us a bit, but we stayed calm. It’s a lot of learning here. With the intensity in training and the players around me, I’ll definitely get better.”

Reijnders stressed his focus is on helping City reclaim the Premier League crown after missing out last season for the first time in five years. “The goal is to win trophies. We all know what we want, and we’re eager to get there. It’s a proud feeling to join one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I want to show that on the pitch.”

City return to action next Saturday when they host Tottenham at the Etihad.
