Bayer Leverkusen director Fernando Carro has addressed growing speculation surrounding right-back Jeremie Frimpong, stating that the club has received no contact from Liverpool despite mounting reports suggesting the Premier League side is ready to activate the player’s release clause.
Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Frimpong as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to depart this summer. Several sources, including SPORT, have claimed that the Reds are close to finalising a deal, with personal terms already agreed. The release clause in Frimpong’s contract is believed to be between €35m and €40m (£29.5m–£33.7m).
Carro, however, insists there has been no official approach from Liverpool.

“Jeremie Frimpong has a long contract with us which also has an exit clause, but we are currently unaware of any transfer,” he told sport.de.
Despite this, The Times reports that Liverpool are preparing to trigger the €35m (£30m) clause, potentially making Frimpong one of their first summer signings.
The Dutch full-back is said to be eager to make the switch to Anfield. If the move materialises, he might not be the only high-profile arrival from Leverkusen. Liverpool have also reportedly made contact with German international midfielder Florian Wirtz over a potential €150m (£126.3m) transfer. However, Wirtz is also being pursued by Manchester City and Bayern Munich, with some reports suggesting a deal with the latter is already in place.
Carro, however, urged caution regarding such claims.
“When I started in football seven years ago, the rumours used to surprise me,” he said. “Now I know there are always various interests and relationships at play. It’s often hard to trace the source of these rumours, but many of them still catch me off guard.”
