Sunderland have secured the loan signing of Chelsea’s teenage striker Marc Guiu, marking their ninth addition of the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old Spaniard joined Chelsea from Barcelona in July 2024 for £5 million and went on to score six goals in 16 appearances for the Blues last season.

Guiu, who describes himself as “a powerful striker” and “natural goalscorer,” expressed his excitement about the move: “This year is a huge opportunity for me to help take this team where it truly deserves to be, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Sunderland earned promotion back to the Premier League in May after defeating Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final.
Guiu is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and made headlines by scoring just 33 seconds into his senior debut for the Catalan giants in a 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in October 2023. After arriving at Chelsea, he made history by becoming the club’s second-youngest player to score a hat-trick, netting three times against Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League.
Sunderland’s sporting director Kristjaan Speakman praised the signing, saying:
“In a loan acquisition, we not only have to convince the player but also the parent club, and we thank Chelsea for placing their trust in us. Most importantly, Marc wanted to come to Sunderland and be part of our club. The competition for his signature was significant, with many high-quality options.
Marc is a progressive striker with key attributes that fit perfectly into our team’s system.”
