Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim expressed frustration with his team’s inconsistency, despite their impressive performance in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.
The Red Devils delivered a composed and confident display, with Bruno Fernandes standing out in midfield, showcasing improved decision-making and leadership. Central midfielders Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo also impressed with arguably their best performances of the season, complementing Fernandes’ effort.
United had a chance to snatch victory late on, but Harry Maguire squandered the opportunity, sending Joshua Zirkzee’s cutback over the crossbar.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Amorim admitted he was pleased with the performance but frustrated by the team’s inability to maintain such levels consistently.
“I get more mad because of the other games, so it’s even harder to understand some things,” Amorim said. “It’s not about the system or technique—it’s something else, and as a coach, it’s hard to accept.”
Amorim acknowledged the team’s competitiveness but emphasized the need for consistency, saying: “If we play like this against Liverpool, we should be able to do it against any opponent. We have to fight hard to get out of this situation. I’m happy with the performance, not the result, but I’m really, really mad about the other games.”
The Portuguese manager, who had previously mentioned his players’ struggles with confidence, told BBC Match of the Day that the team had proven their potential when fully focused.
“When we fight for every ball, suffer, and leave everything on the pitch, we are a good team,” Amorim explained. “But if we don’t do that consistently, we’ll lose games. That’s clear to everyone. It’s about changing the perception that we lack character, and we need to prove otherwise in every game.”
