Ronke Oshodi-Oke, a seasoned Yoruba film actress, has disclosed the origin of her name, adding that many people assumed it was a result of her physical appearance.
In a video that was posted on the official YouTube channel of Oyinmomo TV during an interview, she clarified that many people thought that she got the name Oshodi-Oke because of her body type but that her body was very slim when she got the name in the movie industry.
When asked if it was her body structure that contributed to her breakthrough in the movie industry, she said, “My fame has nothing to do with my body structure because I was very slim when I joined the movie industry. Many people thought I got the name Oshodi-Oke due to the size of my chest and my curves. I got the name from one of my movies that started and ended in Oshodi-Oke.”
“I started going to NTA and got involved in Tales by Moonlight before I eventually received a temporary engagement with Charly Boy, and together we worked on Candid Camera. Today, people know it as “skits,” but back then, it was called Candid Camera. Abacha stopped Charly Boy and me from continuing with the program. We had no idea that the person we pranked was an expatriate. I think he was Chinese and had come to see Abacha. He got offended by the prank and reported us to the presidency. Abacha would have had us arrested and detained, but Charly Boy’s father intervened because he was the Chief Justice of Nigeria at the time. Abacha called Charly Boy’s father and told him he didn’t want the Candid Camera program to continue. He instructed him to warn us to end it. After that, we moved on to several other programs, including The Charly Boy Show.”
