It’s no surprise Manchester United are being linked with a host of strikers this summer. Addressing the No.9 position is arguably the club’s top priority in the transfer window.
Throughout last season, between Erik ten Hag and (former target) Ruben Amorim’s systems, United primarily relied on Rasmus Højlund and occasionally Joshua Zirkzee. However, Zirkzee isn’t a natural centre-forward, and Højlund’s inconsistency raises concerns about whether he can be the long-term solution.

Reinforcements are a must—and now, according to Caught Offside, United have set their sights on highly rated FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa. The Red Devils face stiff competition, with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and West Ham also monitoring the Spanish talent.

The 21-year-old was previously on Atlético Madrid’s books and nearly joined Chelsea before opting for a move to Porto. That decision has paid off: Aghehowa scored 25 goals and provided 3 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions last season.
A Star in the Making
Spain hasn’t produced many elite young strikers in recent years, but Samu Aghehowa may be the one to buck that trend. Powerful, physical, and clinical, the young forward is showing all the traits of a future top-tier No.9.
His performances have already earned him a call-up to Luis de la Fuente’s Nations League squad, though he’s not yet a regular. That could soon change, with many expecting him to eventually surpass the likes of Álvaro Morata and Mikel Oyarzabal in the national team setup.
Samu’s current contract reportedly includes a release clause of £84.2 million, but interest from top clubs could see him move for a fee closer to £59 million–£63 million this summer.
That price tag may make United think twice about investing in another young, developing striker. However, given Samu’s high ceiling and explosive potential, it might be a gamble worth taking.
Whether United make a concrete move remains to be seen, but the interest signals their clear intent to find a long-term solution up front.
