Real Madrid are on the verge of securing a deal for Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen, with Spanish media describing the transfer as a “done deal”—potentially bringing a swift conclusion to one of the summer’s most high-profile transfer sagas.
Huijsen, who joined Bournemouth from Juventus in a quiet move last summer, has risen rapidly with a standout Premier League campaign and even made his senior Spain debut in March. Born in the Netherlands, the 20-year-old has attracted serious interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich, all of whom are seeking defensive reinforcements.

Despite the competition, Madrid have remained confident. According to MARCA, documents are now being exchanged between Real Madrid and Bournemouth, with only the official announcement pending. The Spanish outlet claims Huijsen has turned down seven other “concrete offers” to join Los Blancos.

The key to the transfer appears to be a breakthrough in salary negotiations—especially crucial in edging out Chelsea—and a £50m (€59m) release clause in Huijsen’s contract, payable in three instalments, which several clubs were in a position to trigger.
If Madrid finalize the move quickly, Huijsen could be registered during FIFA’s exceptional mini-transfer window in early June, making him eligible to feature in the Club World Cup.
While Spanish outlets like MARCA have previously overstated the status of Madrid’s transfer pursuits, their report gains credibility from a parallel claim by The Telegraph, which also suggests that Real have won the race for Huijsen.
Defensive depth has been a persistent issue for Madrid this season. Eder Militao has been sidelined long-term, David Alaba has struggled since returning from injury, and Antonio Rudiger has been playing through pain before recently undergoing surgery. Right-back Dani Carvajal has missed much of the season, while Ferland Mendy’s future remains uncertain.
However, Madrid’s backline could soon look significantly different. Alongside Huijsen, the club is also nearing a deal for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. With his contract expiring on June 30, discussions over a nominal fee of around €1m could enable him to join early and also be registered during the mini-window.
It’s been a whirlwind rise for Huijsen, and all signs now point to the Bernabéu as the next stage in his rapidly accelerating career.
