Real Madrid climbed back to second place in La Liga on Sunday afternoon with a dominant 2-0 win over Girona in the Spanish capital.
With Atletico Madrid and Barcelona both winning earlier, Los Blancos began the day in third place, adding extra pressure ahead of Girona’s visit.
Both teams had early chances, with Madrid’s attacking force—sans Jude Bellingham—threatening on the counter but failing to convert. Girona struggled to impose themselves, looking more comfortable once they settled into a defensive shape.

The visitors had a couple of opportunities in the first half, with Thibaut Courtois saving a shot from Donny van de Beek and Viktor Tsygankov firing a good chance over. However, just before the break, Luka Modric gave Madrid the lead with a stunning long-range strike.
After taking the lead, Madrid played with more control, while Girona posed little threat. Vinicius Junior started to dominate his wing and came close to doubling the lead, hitting the crossbar with a powerful shot from distance. The Brazilian was determined to break his La Liga goal drought.
In the final ten minutes, Vinicius got on the scoresheet, finishing coolly from Kylian Mbappe’s clever pass to seal the win for Madrid.
