President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a $100,000 cash reward for every member of Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their triumphant outing at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament.
The announcement was made during a special reception held in their honour at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President praised the team for bringing pride to the nation through their historic achievement.

In addition to the monetary reward, each player was conferred with a national honour and gifted a flat by the Federal Government.

Also present at the event were First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top government officials. The D’Tigress delegation was led by Head Coach Rena Wakama.
The team was welcomed at the forecourt of the President’s office shortly before 5 p.m. before being ushered into the New Banquet Hall of the State House.
D’Tigress defeated Mali 78–64 in the final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday night, securing their seventh AfroBasket title and an impressive fifth in a row—further solidifying their dominance in African women’s basketball.
This recognition comes exactly a week after President Tinubu honoured the Super Falcons with a similar gesture following their record-extending tenth WAFCON title win in Rabat, Morocco—an act that drew mixed reactions across social media.
