Former Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller has signed with Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps for the remainder of the 2025 season.
The 35-year-old ends a remarkable 25-year journey with Bayern, having come through the club’s youth ranks and helping them to two Champions League titles and 13 Bundesliga championships before his contract expired this summer.

Müller’s deal with Vancouver includes an option to become a designated player (DP) for the 2026 MLS season—a designation that allows clubs to sign up to three high-profile players whose salaries do not count against the salary cap.

To secure the veteran forward, Vancouver acquired his MLS discovery priority rights from FC Cincinnati in exchange for $200,000 (£149,000) in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM), $100,000 (£75,000) in 2026 GAM, and a conditional $100,000 (£75,000) in additional 2026 GAM.
Müller will officially join the squad upon receiving his international transfer certificate, visa, and work permit.
“I’m looking forward to coming to Vancouver to help this team win a championship,” said Müller. “I’ve heard great things about the city, but first and foremost, I’m coming to win. I’ve had great conversations with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sorensen, and I can’t wait to play in front of our fans at BC Place as we push for the playoffs.”
A German football icon, Müller earned 131 caps for his country, scoring 45 goals. He won the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup and helped Germany lift the trophy in 2014.
The Whitecaps currently sit second in the Western Conference, just one point behind San Diego, with 10 regular-season matches remaining.
