Manchester United are reportedly set to make a significant move for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha as part of their summer squad overhaul.
After a disappointing season, United are expected to be highly active in the summer transfer window as they look to build a team more suited to the demands of new head coach Ruben Amorim. Scouts have been particularly focused on the Bundesliga, with half of their striker shortlist coming from the German league. Now, reports suggest that Simons and Nmecha are also on United’s radar.
According to Sky Sports Germany, United have identified 21-year-old attacking midfielder Xavi Simons as a target. Simons, who can play in several attacking roles, fits the profile of the versatile player Amorim desires. However, Leipzig are reportedly demanding over €80m (£67m) to part ways with the player, who only joined them permanently in January after an 18-month loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

United are reportedly ready to spend big this summer, with their transfer budget likely to be bolstered by player sales. Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is one of those who could be sold to generate funds.
In addition to an attacking midfielder, United are also looking to strengthen their central midfield. BILD reports that Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha has emerged as a surprise target. The 23-year-old, who previously played for Manchester City, could cost United around €47.8m (£40m). Although Dortmund are not keen on selling Nmecha, their poor domestic form and potential failure to qualify for the Champions League could force them into difficult decisions. With Dortmund sitting 11th in the Bundesliga, they may need to sell players to balance the books.
United could look to capitalize on Dortmund’s struggles and offer Nmecha the opportunity to fill the gap left by Christian Eriksen, who has publicly stated his intention to leave the club this summer.
