Manchester United may have a way out for Rasmus Hojlund this summer, with reports suggesting Atalanta are open to re-signing the struggling striker in a potential swap deal that could include Ademola Lookman.
Hojlund, who joined United from Atalanta in a £64 million deal, showed early promise with 16 goals in his debut season. However, the 22-year-old has endured a difficult second campaign, scoring just eight times in 45 appearances, leading the club to consider offloading him as part of a major rebuild under new manager Ruben Amorim.
According to The Sun, Atalanta remain admirers of Hojlund and are considering a summer swoop if United are ready to cut their losses. The Dane is still a fan favourite in Bergamo, and scouts from the Serie A club have been monitoring his recent performances while staying in contact with his representatives.

The report also suggests that Lookman, who has flourished in Italy with three impressive seasons, could be part of a swap arrangement. The 27-year-old Nigeria international, formerly of Everton and Fulham, is said to be open to a Premier League return and would reportedly welcome a move to Old Trafford.
Both Hojlund and Lookman are believed to be valued around £50 million, making a direct swap a realistic possibility. United, however, could explore further options, with Atalanta midfielders Ederson and Mateo Retegui also on their radar. Club scouts were reportedly present during Atalanta’s recent 1-0 win over AC Milan to watch all three players.
Hojlund’s dip in form has drawn criticism, with Premier League legend Alan Shearer recently saying the striker looks like a “damaged player.”
“He wasn’t ready and still isn’t ready to lead the attack at a club like Man United,” Shearer said on Match of the Day 2. “He looks short on confidence and unsure of himself. There’s a good player in there, but this pressure is too much for him at this stage.”
With the summer window approaching, United may now have a chance to reset both their attacking options and Hojlund’s career — potentially in a deal that benefits all parties involved.
