Liverpool have announced plans to honour Diogo Jota’s contract by continuing to pay his salary to his family for the remaining two years.
Tragedy struck just after midnight on Thursday when Jota and his brother, André Silva, were involved in a fatal car accident in Zamora, Spain. The pair were en route to Santander to catch a ferry to England when a tire blew out, causing the vehicle to crash and catch fire. Both men lost their lives in the incident. André Silva was also a professional footballer, playing in Portugal’s second division.

In a heartfelt gesture, Liverpool have committed to supporting Jota’s loved ones—his wife, Rute, and their three children—by paying out his contract, which runs until June 30, 2027. His annual salary was reportedly around $7 million, excluding bonuses.

According to Sportal, the club is also planning a tribute at Anfield, potentially a mural to commemorate Jota’s final goal in a Liverpool shirt.
Jota, who joined Liverpool in 2020, made 182 appearances for the Reds, scoring 65 goals and becoming a fan favourite for his passion and consistency on the pitch.
