Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed there has been no progress in discussions regarding a new contract with Manchester City.
The Belgian midfielder is approaching the final six months of his current deal, with contract talks previously paused due to a hamstring injury—the same issue that disrupted his 2023/24 season.
Now back in action, the 33-year-old was recently asked about any updates on his contract status. “No, nothing yet,” De Bruyne responded.

This means De Bruyne will be free to negotiate with clubs abroad starting on January 1, with several teams reportedly interested in the playmaker. The Saudi Pro League has long viewed him as a prime target, while Major League Soccer’s expansion side San Diego FC is also said to be keen on acquiring him for their inaugural season.
City manager Pep Guardiola, who extended his own contract in November, recently expressed his desire to see a younger De Bruyne sign a long-term deal but acknowledged that the veteran midfielder’s time at the Etihad Stadium will eventually come to an end.
“There are players whose impact on the legacy of this club will be eternal,” Guardiola said. “Of course, it’s not easy to replace them, but as a club, we need to find the best way if that moment comes.”
