England midfielder Jordan Henderson is set to make a surprise return to the Premier League by joining Brentford after parting ways with Ajax.
The 35-year-old has agreed to terminate his contract with the Dutch club a year early and is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Bees. Henderson’s arrival comes as a replacement for former captain Christian Norgaard, who recently completed a move to Arsenal.

Henderson left Liverpool in 2023 after a decorated 12-year spell at Anfield, during which he won the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup. A brief stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq followed, but the move proved short-lived, prompting his return to Europe with Ajax in January.

Though he missed out on England’s Euro 2024 squad, Henderson has been recalled by new national team manager Thomas Tuchel, who is looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup.
Brentford are undergoing a summer overhaul under new head coach Keith Andrews, following Thomas Frank’s departure to Tottenham. The club has already secured deals for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, Feyenoord’s promising midfielder Antoni Milambo, and made Michael Kayode’s loan move from Fiorentina permanent.
Meanwhile, Manchester United remain interested in Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, having reportedly submitted a bid worth up to £62.5 million last month.
