Veteran Nigerian actress and university lecturer Professor Joke Muyiwa, who is well-known for her stellar Nollywood performances and her academic position in the university’s performing arts department, opened up about her career decisions and the challenges that artists frequently encounter in the entertainment industry. In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV.
She revealed that despite decades in the movie industry, she has only produced one film. “I have only produced one movie because producing isn’t compulsory. Some of us enjoy acting more than producing. It depends on your interest,” she said.
According to Prof. Muyiwa, the assumption that every successful actor must eventually become a producer is misguided. She emphasized that artistic fulfillment can come from different paths, and not everyone is drawn to the business and organizational demands of production. “Whatever you set your mind to, that’s what you will achieve,” she added, stressing the importance of self-awareness and passion.
She further noted that acting and teaching have always grounded her in discipline and values. “Acting and teaching didn’t permit us to engage in bad behavior. Acting is about showcasing the good in the society, so we must continue doing that and avoid bad habits,” she explained.
