Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has addressed the racism allegations made against him for the first time.
The controversy followed a 0-0 draw with Galatasaray in last month’s Istanbul Derby, where Mourinho was accused of making a derogatory comment about the opposition bench, referring to them as “jumping around like monkeys.”
Despite the backlash and threats of legal action, Mourinho remains calm and unfazed. Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss explained that his critics had misunderstood him due to their lack of knowledge about his background.

“They weren’t clever in the way they attacked me because they didn’t know my past,” Mourinho said. “They didn’t know about my connections with Africa, with African people, African players, and African charities.”
He continued, “Instead of going against me, I think it boomeranged and went against them.”
Mourinho concluded, “Everyone knows who I am as a person. People are aware of my bad qualities, but racism is not one of them. Quite the opposite.”
