Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson has revealed that his father passed away at the start of the 2024-25 season, sharing an emotional tribute following his key role in the club’s 1-0 FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

The victory marked Palace’s first major trophy in the club’s 119-year history, as they triumphed over Pep Guardiola’s formidable City side at Wembley.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the match, Henderson explained that his father’s death earlier in the season had been a deeply emotional experience, and he felt his father’s presence during the final.

“I lost my dad at the start of the season and I miss him here today, but he was with me. I dedicate that win to him!” said the 28-year-old, who also enjoyed a standout performance in goal.

Henderson became the first goalkeeper since Petr Cech in 2009 to save a non-shootout penalty in an FA Cup final, with his crucial save in the first half helping secure Palace’s historic win.
