JJC Skillz, who rose to fame in the UK as a music producer and later transitioned into filmmaking in Nigeria, was married to Funke Akindele for six years. The two tied the knot in a private ceremony in London in May 2016 after being introduced by Funke’s sister during the production of Jenifa’s Diary.
Their union produced twin boys in 2018, though the couple largely kept their children and family life away from the public eye.
Professionally, they were a formidable team. JJC and Funke co-founded SceneOne Productions, the company behind popular shows such as Jenifa’s Diary, Industreet, and My Siblings and I. Their collaboration significantly boosted Funke’s success as a Nollywood producer and director.
However, the couple’s marriage encountered challenges that led to their separation. In June 2022, JJC publicly announced their split, revealing that they had been facing issues for two years and that Funke had asked him to leave their home three months before he went public. Despite the end of their marriage, he noted that they remained committed to co-parenting.
In March 2023, JJC remarried, taking a new wife, Falilat Raji, in a low-key ceremony in Kano. Funke Akindele also moved forward with her career by dissolving SceneOne Productions and launching her own content company, The Funke Akindele Network (FAAN), in November 2023.
Though no longer together, the former couple have continued to show mutual respect. They were seen publicly interacting at events like the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and the 2023 premiere of She Must Be Obeyed, a project Funke starred in and co-produced.
As JJC mourns his brother, many in the entertainment community continue to send him prayers and support during this difficult time.
