Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, continue to hold their position as Africa’s best, maintaining their lead over rivals South Africa and Ghana in the latest FIFA rankings.
Released on Thursday, the rankings show that Nigeria remains the 36th best team in the world, solidifying their status as the top women’s team on the continent.
South Africa dropped one spot to 54th globally, placing them second in Africa, while Ghana sits in third at 65th. Morocco has climbed to 60th, moving up to fourth in Africa, while Zambia falls to 64th, completing the top five.

Other notable movements include Kenya, which made the biggest jump by climbing seven spots to 142nd, and Tunisia, which suffered the largest drop, falling 11 places to 89th.
Globally, the United States remains the top-ranked women’s team, followed by world champions Spain in second. Germany, England, and Japan round out the top five, with Japan rising three spots.
The Super Falcons’ consistent performance cements their position as the benchmark for women’s football in Africa, ahead of their regional and continental rivals.
The next FIFA women’s rankings will be released on June 12, 2025.
