In his post-match comments, Pellegrini pointed to tactical changes and injuries as key factors that shifted momentum in Chelsea’s favor, particularly down Betis’ left flank.
“We had a very good first half, we were the better side, scored a goal, and created several chances,” Pellegrini said.
“But the game was heavily influenced by the substitutions. Chelsea hurt us more down that left flank.”
“Ricardo Esgaio had that side well controlled initially, and they didn’t trouble us much there. However, injuries disrupted our rhythm, and we couldn’t maintain the level we expected.”
“They turned the match around in just a few minutes.”
Reflecting on the final score, Pellegrini added:
“They are a tough opponent. The 4-1 scoreline didn’t fully reflect the true gap between the teams.”
