Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged his side’s difficulties in defending set pieces following their 4-3 defeat to Brentford on Sunday. The loss left the Red Devils in 15th place, with their only remaining hope for salvation this season being the Europa League.

Speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day, Amorim said:
“I was pleased with the performance of the young players. I liked how we controlled the game, even though we didn’t have many chances to score.”

“In the first 30 minutes, we struggled with set pieces, but we knew we didn’t have the height to compete in that area.”
“In the second half, we were close to equalising, but we conceded two goals in the same way as the first one—we let our guard down.”
“We fought until the end, but ultimately we lost. However, there were positive moments to build on for the future.”
On the changes to his starting lineup, Amorim added:
“As a club, we need to understand the gravity of the situation. We have a big responsibility to prepare a squad that can compete in different competitions.”
