Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim reportedly came close to resigning in January, just two months after taking charge, according to ESPN.
The 40-year-old took over from Erik ten Hag in November 2024, but his start at Old Trafford was far from smooth—managing just one win in his first eight matches.
Following a 3-1 defeat to Brighton at home, Amorim was reportedly ready to walk away from the role and had to be persuaded to stay by close associates.

Despite staying on, results have remained underwhelming. United have lost 13 of their 25 Premier League matches under Amorim, leaving the Portuguese tactician “deeply embarrassed,” per the report.
Still, there has been some success, as Amorim has led United to the Europa League final, where they will face domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur. A win would not only secure silverware but also a place in next season’s Champions League.
After considering his future earlier in the year, Amorim was reassured by senior club officials, including CEO Omar Berrada, that he would receive full backing to turn things around.
