England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has revealed that the chance to reunite with Eddie Howe played a key role in his decision to join Newcastle United on a season-long loan from Southampton.
The 27-year-old completed the move on Saturday, reuniting with Howe, who originally signed him from Sheffield United for around £800,000 back in 2017 during their time at Bournemouth.

“Working with the manager and his coaching staff again was a big draw for me,” Ramsdale said.
“They’ve already had a huge influence on my career. The gaffer turned me from a man into a professional footballer at Bournemouth — he really showed me the ropes. That was a major factor in my decision.”

Newcastle turned their focus to Ramsdale after Manchester City beat them to former target James Trafford, who joined from Burnley.
Ramsdale becomes the Magpies’ third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and Antonio Cordero from Málaga.
The club also recently rejected a £110 million offer from Liverpool for striker Alexander Isak, who they value closer to £150 million and remain determined to keep.
