Liverpool have announced that Diogo Jota’s iconic No. 20 shirt will be permanently retired in honour of the late forward.

The club made the announcement via their official website on Thursday, paying tribute to Jota, who tragically passed away at the age of 28 in a car accident in Spain that also claimed the life of his brother, Andre Silva.

In recognition of Jota’s vital role in the club’s historic 2024-2025 Premier League title win — their 20th top-flight crown — the Reds will immortalise his jersey number.

Jota’s final goal came in April’s Merseyside derby, where his trademark shimmy and finish secured a memorable victory — a fitting and emotional final chapter in his career.

He is survived by his wife, Rute, and their three children.
