Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al Nassr is now in question following another disappointing Saudi Pro League season.
Since joining the club at the end of 2022 after his departure from Manchester United, Ronaldo has been a prolific scorer in the Middle East, netting 91 goals in 103 appearances. However, his time at Al Nassr has yet to yield significant silverware.
Despite the presence of high-profile teammates like Jhon Duran and Sadio Mane, Al Nassr has struggled to mount a serious title challenge. A 3-2 loss to league leaders Al Ittihad on Wednesday—after leading 2-0—virtually ended their hopes of winning the Saudi Pro League this season. According to MARCA, Ronaldo’s post-match reaction to the defeat, including reportedly leaving the stadium without changing his kit, did not sit well with the club’s officials.

Al Nassr’s recent struggles also saw them knocked out of the Asian Champions League by Kawasaki Frontale, and with a fourth-place standing in the Saudi Pro League, they currently face uncertainty regarding their qualification for next season’s AFC competition.
As a result, Ronaldo is said to be reconsidering his future in Riyadh. While he was initially keen to extend his stay for another two years, the lack of major trophies—apart from the 2023 Arab Champions Cup—has led him to reassess his options. With his ambitions to add more silverware before retirement, the 40-year-old may look for a new challenge.
Should Ronaldo decide to leave, speculation will intensify about his next move, with a potential return to Sporting CP being considered. The Portuguese club could view Ronaldo as a short-term solution to replace Viktor Gyokeres, who is expected to depart this summer.
