Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has issued a heartfelt apology to the club, his teammates, and fans after receiving a red card during the Blues’ 3-1 defeat to Flamengo in their second group stage match at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
According to Torizone, Jackson began the match on the bench and was brought on in the 63rd minute to replace Liam Delap, with Chelsea trailing 2-1. However, instead of sparking a comeback, the Ivorian added to the team’s woes by receiving a straight red card for a reckless challenge, further compounding Chelsea’s struggles.

Pedro Neto had given the Premier League side an early lead in Philadelphia, but Flamengo responded after the break with goals from Bruno Henrique and Danilo. Jackson’s dismissal only worsened the situation, and he will now miss the next match due to suspension.

This is not the first time Jackson has drawn criticism for ill-discipline. He was previously sent off in a crucial Premier League clash against Newcastle last season, a moment that nearly jeopardised Chelsea’s Champions League qualification hopes.
Following the match, Jackson took to social media—via transfer expert Fabrizio Romano—to express remorse:
“I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching—I let you down,” he wrote.
“Another red card, and honestly, I’m so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team, not to put us in this kind of situation. I still don’t fully understand how it happened.
But one thing is clear: it wasn’t intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. No excuses. I take full responsibility.
I’ll reflect, I’ll grow, and I’ll come back stronger—for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.”
Chelsea, who opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Los Angeles, were hoping to secure a second consecutive victory but now sit second in Group D with three points. Flamengo top the group with two wins from two.
Enzo Maresca’s side must now defeat Esperance of Tunisia in their final group game to advance to the round of 16.
