Chelsea are pleased to announce the signing of Mamadou Sarr from Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg, with the promising defender putting pen to paper on a long-term contract running until 2033.
The 19-year-old played a key role in Strasbourg’s successful 2024/25 campaign, making 28 appearances across all competitions and helping the club secure qualification for the UEFA Conference League play-off round. His standout performances included a crucial display in Strasbourg’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain, where he played a part in forcing an own goal.
A Rising Talent in French Football

Mamadou began his youth career at RC Lens before moving to Olympique Lyonnais, where he rose through the academy ranks and made his senior debut in the penultimate fixture of the 2022/23 season. He featured twice more for Lyon the following year before gaining valuable experience during a five-month loan at Belgian side RWD Molenbeek.

His breakthrough came after joining Strasbourg in August 2024. Quickly establishing himself as a defensive mainstay, Mamadou made 27 starts in Ligue 1, helping the club achieve a strong seventh-place finish.
International Recognition
A regular in the French youth setup, Mamadou has represented his country at multiple levels, most recently turning out for the France Under-20 national team.
With his composure, athleticism, and tactical awareness, Mamadou Sarr is viewed as one of the most exciting young defenders in European football.
