Chelsea are reportedly open to the possibility of selling centre-back Wesley Fofana this summer, with Ligue 1 club Marseille showing interest.
The Blues fought a lengthy transfer battle to secure Fofana’s services in the summer of 2022, eventually agreeing to a £75m deal and offering the 24-year-old a significant salary believed to be around £200,000 per week. However, Fofana’s time at Chelsea has been plagued by injuries, with the Frenchman making just 34 appearances over three seasons. This includes 14 outings this season before he was sidelined due to a season-ending injury that required surgery last month.
According to Foot Mercato, Chelsea’s concerns over Fofana’s injury record have led them to consider offers for the defender this summer, with both permanent and loan bids likely to be entertained.

A permanent transfer would likely come at a significant fee as Chelsea aim to avoid a financial loss on Fofana, whose contract runs until 2029. If sold permanently, Saudi Arabia is currently seen as the most likely destination.
If Chelsea opts to loan out Fofana, Marseille could lead the race. The player confirmed earlier this season that he had received an offer from the Ligue 1 side last summer. While he remains committed to Chelsea, Fofana has openly expressed his admiration for Marseille and his desire to represent the club in the future.
Marseille’s interest remains strong, but a summer loan move would likely depend on the club securing Champions League qualification. Currently sitting second, the top-four race is extremely tight, with Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club, only four points behind in seventh.
Chelsea are also looking to strengthen their defense this summer and have reportedly set their sights on Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen, who is available for £50m due to his release clause. Additionally, there have been strong links to Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, a former Chelsea academy player who was sold to the Eagles for £18m in 2021.
