Despite Chelsea’s ongoing slump, the club has no intention of sacking manager Enzo Maresca, according to multiple reports.
The Blues were handed a convincing 3-0 defeat by Brighton at the AMEX Stadium on Friday, marking their second loss to the Seagulls in just six days. Chelsea failed to register a single shot on target, and Maresca apologized to the traveling supporters, calling the performance “the worst since I arrived.”
This loss added to a series of disappointing results since mid-December. After a five-game winning streak, Chelsea have won only two of their last nine league matches, with just six teams earning fewer points during this stretch. However, reports indicate that Maresca’s job remains secure.

Fabrizio Romano stated on his YouTube channel that there are “no issues” regarding Maresca’s future, and the Italian coach is still considered “the right man for the job” by those at Chelsea. The Athletic echoed this sentiment, noting that the club is “happy” with Maresca, despite the team’s struggles. Chelsea’s injury crisis has certainly hindered their progress, but they are still in contention for Champions League qualification—a goal initially set for the 2025/26 season. As Maresca himself has stressed: “We are in the right process, we are in the right direction.”
With the possibility of the top five qualifying for next season’s Champions League, Chelsea’s aim to meet this target ahead of schedule remains achievable, as they are currently level on points with fifth-placed Bournemouth with 13 games to go.
Despite Chelsea’s track record of frequent managerial changes under new ownership, with Maresca being the sixth manager in nearly three years, he remains under the club’s backing for now. Mauricio Pochettino’s relatively successful sixth-place finish last season did not save him from the sack, which may have been on Maresca’s mind when he admitted after the Brighton defeat: “I feel pressure always.”
