Barcelona have confirmed that forward Ferran Torres has undergone successful surgery for appendicitis and is expected to miss the rest of the season as he recovers.
The 25-year-old played a key role in Barcelona’s 3-2 victory over Real Madrid on Sunday, registering a hat-trick of assists in El Clásico—a win that brought the Catalan side within touching distance of the La Liga title. However, Torres was soon sidelined by illness and underwent emergency surgery on Wednesday.
With just ten days remaining in the La Liga season, Torres is unlikely to feature again. Barcelona could clinch the title as early as Thursday with a win against local rivals Espanyol.

Their coronation was delayed on Wednesday night after Real Madrid narrowly escaped defeat, securing a dramatic 2-1 win over Mallorca thanks to a stoppage-time goal from surprise scorer Jacobo Ramon.
Though not always a starter—Torres has made just 12 La Liga starts and three in the Champions League—his importance to the squad has been evident. Serving as the main backup across the front line for Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha, Torres has racked up 45 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 19 goals.
Among his standout performances was a late brace off the bench during Barcelona’s thrilling 4-2 comeback win over Atletico Madrid in March.
While recovery from an appendectomy typically takes a few weeks, Torres is expected to be fully fit in time for Barcelona’s pre-season preparations in July.
