Former Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger has placed Lamine Yamal ahead of Ousmane Dembélé in the running for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
The 40-year-old, who did not reveal his personal pick for the award this year, expressed his belief that the Spanish winger deserves to be ranked higher than Dembélé.

Schweinsteiger made the comments following Yamal’s impressive performance in Spain’s Nations League semi-final victory over France on Thursday.

Speaking to SWR, as reported by Metro UK, the former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder said, “Ballon d’Or? Lamine Yamal has to be put higher than Dembele. Lamine Yamal was better tonight.”
Both Yamal and Dembélé are strong contenders for the 2025 Ballon d’Or due to their standout seasons so far. Yamal secured the La Liga and Copa del Rey titles under Hansi Flick’s management with Barcelona, while Dembélé won the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and Coupe de France with Paris Saint-Germain last season.
