Newcastle striker Alexander Isak is among several big names linked with a move to Arsenal following comments from manager Mikel Arteta about the club’s transfer plans.
Isak, along with his Sweden teammate Viktor Gyokeres and Slovenia’s Benjamin Sesko, are all being considered as potential targets for the Gunners. While Arsenal have yet to decide on their primary striker target, they are reportedly reaching a crucial stage in talks over Gyokeres, who has scored 53 goals in all competitions this season for Sporting Lisbon, helping them defend their Primeira Liga title. Both Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with the Portuguese club’s star.
However, convincing Isak to leave Newcastle might prove challenging, especially given his popularity with the fans. Former England striker Teddy Sheringham expressed doubts over Isak’s willingness to move, pointing to his key role at Newcastle and the strong bond with supporters.

“I think he’s absolutely lauded as a centre forward at Newcastle, so why would he want to go?” Sheringham told Prime Casino. “It doesn’t get much better than fans loving you, your team playing to the best aspects of your game, being the focal point, earning good money, and playing at the top level. The manager loves him, and the players understand him. I’d be very surprised if he wanted to go anywhere else right now.”
Newcastle’s pursuit of Champions League football may also influence Isak’s decision. A win against Everton in their final game could secure a top-five finish and another shot at Europe’s elite competition, where Isak has so far scored just once.
“They’re a club moving in the right direction, having won their first trophy in over 70 years this season,” Sheringham added. “I think all their top players will want to stay, and it would take ridiculous money to tempt Isak, Anthony Gordon, or Bruno Guimaraes away. They don’t have to sell when Champions League football is on offer.”
Ahead of Arsenal’s final Premier League game, Arteta addressed the club’s transfer approach but was cautious about naming names. “If you want to win major trophies, you have to be the best in the market, no?” he said. “Understanding that the context can change tomorrow, we cannot rely just on the numbers that we had before. We have to add goals, creativity, and numbers in different positions.”
The decision on Arsenal’s striker target looks set to be a key talking point as the summer transfer window approaches.
