Alexander Isak propelled Newcastle United to a historic 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night, marking their ninth consecutive win across all competitions. This achievement equaled the club’s record for the longest winning streak, a feat only matched twice in the club’s 144-year history, and never surpassed.
Rafa Benitez came close to reaching ten straight victories during Newcastle’s dominant Championship campaign in 2016/17. The only other time such a run occurred in the Premier League was during Kevin Keegan’s legendary tenure in the early ’90s, when the team won their final match of the 1993/94 season and then opened the following season with eight consecutive wins.
Andrew Cole, a prolific scorer for Keegan’s “Entertainers,” netted eight goals during that early period. However, Isak has now surpassed that record, scoring ten goals during Newcastle’s current nine-game winning streak.

The Swedish striker, who is living up to his £150m valuation, opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, making it his eighth consecutive Premier League match with a goal. Only three other players in Premier League history—Jamie Vardy, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Daniel Sturridge—have matched such a goal-scoring run.
Isak doubled Newcastle’s lead in the second half and was denied a hat-trick after his initial shot was blocked. However, he unselfishly squared the ball to Anthony Gordon, who sealed the 3-0 win in the 74th minute.
Manager Eddie Howe, while proud of his team’s achievements, kept a level head. “We’re in the key moment where that could lead to something else,” Howe said ahead of the match. “But I urge my players—and myself—to ignore everything and focus on the next one.”
With the win, Newcastle moved above Chelsea into the Premier League top four, just three points behind third-place Nottingham Forest. Howe remains optimistic, stating, “I believe anything is possible for us. There’s never a ceiling on what we can achieve. The only ceiling is what we potentially put in our own way, and that’s something we must avoid.”
