The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) came to a dramatic close on Saturday night, as Nigeria edged out hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final.
The Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback after falling 2-0 behind in the first half, with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy putting the Atlas Lionesses in control.
However, Nigeria turned the game around in the second half. Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty to reduce the deficit, then assisted Folashade Ijamilusi for the equalizer. Jennifer Echegini sealed the victory with a late winner from a set-piece.
