Former Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale has praised his former teammate Luka Modric, describing the veteran Croatian as “a fine wine” who continues to improve with age.
Bale’s comments come as the 39-year-old midfielder prepares to leave Real Madrid and join AC Milan on a one-year deal. Modric, who won the 2018 Ballon d’Or, is set to be unveiled by the Serie A club in the coming days, following Los Blancos’ exit from the ongoing Club World Cup.

Speaking to ESPN about Modric’s move, Bale said:
“I think he could arguably still keep playing, but I think Real Madrid want to take the younger players and carry on.
What an incredible footballer. I always call him a fine wine—just keeps getting better with age.”
