German football legend Thomas Müller has bid an emotional farewell after playing his final match for Bayern Munich — the only club he’s represented throughout his professional career.
The curtain came down on Müller’s glittering spell with the Bavarian giants following their 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday. Goals from Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé sealed Bayern’s elimination.
Müller’s Reflections

Though the moment marked the end of an era, Müller remained composed and focused in his post-match comments, choosing not to delve deeply into his emotions or reveal future plans.

“I’m still fully in work mode now. It doesn’t feel much different from before the game when we tried, and I also tried, to just get one round further,” he said.
Expressing disappointment over the result, Müller suggested Bayern were unfortunate not to progress.
“In the end, maybe we deserved more. But in football, when you have these tight matches, it’s sometimes a coin flip. And, yes, we lost it.”
While acknowledging the significance of the moment, Müller held back from sharing personal reflections.
“Of course, I am aware that this was my last game, and I will see what goes through my head in the coming days. At the moment, I’m not in the mood to share my deeper thoughts about my career. We lost a big fight — a very important game for us,” he added.
End of an Era
Müller had confirmed earlier this year that he would depart Bayern Munich at the end of the 2024/25 season. Despite the Club World Cup disappointment, the German champions wrapped up the Bundesliga title for the 34th time, adding one last domestic honour to Müller’s storied career.
He leaves Bayern as their all-time record appearance holder, with over 750 matches played, and also holds the record for most assists in the club’s history — a testament to his enduring influence and legacy.
