Adunni Ade, a well-known actress from Nigeria, has spoken candidly about the difficult conditions she has encountered in Nollywood, exposing how jealousy, sabotage, and industry politics have cost her multiple professional opportunities.

Speaking during an interview shared by WithChude, Adunni recounted her return to Nigeria in 2011 and how her straightforward personality clashed with the norms of the industry.

“I have encountered so much. So, I moved back here (Nigeria) in 2011. When I came back, it was big. I started off with movies, and they went straight to the cinema,” she said.

She attributed some of her challenges to cultural differences and her refusal to conform to industry politics.

“I think my personality was just too much for a lot of people I came across. Maybe it’s the Nigerian setting. I think Nigerians don’t like to be told the truth. They like to be deceived and lied to. They like when other folks kiss their partner’s behind, and that does not work for me.”

Adunni emphasized her values, saying, “Yes is yes in my book, and no is no. White is white, black is black. White can never be gray in my book. I wasn’t being nasty. I was just being straightforward.”

However, her honesty didn’t sit well with many in the industry.

“I was outcasted. I’ve had jobs taken away from me. I’ve had colleagues who are now big names yank my name off and lie to producers and executive producers about why I shouldn’t be hired.”

She also disclosed losing endorsement deals for personal, not professional, reasons.

“Deals have been yanked off my feet because they don’t know me or don’t like me or I’m not their person. They’d rather give it to someone they’re cool with who can give them a cut, rat
