Legendary former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has admitted he was surprised by Cesc Fabregas’ swift rise in management, praising the former midfielder’s early success in the dugout.
Fabregas retired from professional football in July 2023, having enjoyed a glittering career that included Premier League, FA Cup, and LaLiga titles, along with a World Cup win in 2010.

He quickly transitioned into coaching, taking charge of Como’s U-19 team after earning his coaching badges. Following the dismissal of Moreno Longo in November 2023, Fabregas was promoted to interim head coach of the first team and later appointed permanently after impressing in the role.

Fabregas then guided Como to promotion and a remarkable 10th-place finish in Serie A — just two spots below AC Milan — defying widespread expectations that the newly promoted side would be relegation contenders.
Speaking to Marca, Wenger said:
“The truth is, I didn’t expect such rapid success, but I do believe Fabregas will be a great coach in the future.”
“Sometimes, when you go so quickly from playing to coaching, it’s difficult to adapt — and he’s done it very quickly.”
Wenger also revealed that Fabregas has invited him to visit:
“He’s invited me to come to Como to see him. At some point, I’ll honour that invitation.”
