In response to the speculation, a female relative of the bride appeared in a video to set the record straight. She said the marriage was not forced and that all customary rites were properly observed
“To everyone asking if our daughter was forced to marry Akin Olaiya, that is not true. Her bride price was properly paid in full by her husband. We didn’t give her out cheaply. They love each other so much. We Hausas don’t give our daughters out because of money or friendship. This union is pure love,” she said.

Additional footage later surfaced online showing the bride smiling and greeting guests during the event, suggesting that the earlier clip may have captured only a brief moment that did not reflect her overall mood.
