The Premier League has cautioned fans that fixture dates could change at short notice next season, owing to the record number of English clubs involved in European competitions during the 2025-26 campaign.
Nine top-flight teams — including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and Nottingham Forest — will compete in UEFA tournaments. This unprecedented level of participation is expected to place added strain on the domestic calendar.
In a statement, the Premier League said that while it welcomes the success of its clubs in Europe, it also anticipates “an increased likelihood of Premier League fixtures moving at relatively short notice,” especially if clubs advance to the knockout stages. Fans are advised to factor this in when making plans to attend matches.

The warning comes alongside the release of the 2025-26 Premier League fixture list. The season will kick off on Friday, 15 August, with champions Liverpool beginning their title defence at Anfield against Bournemouth. The standout clash of the opening weekend sees Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Other key opening fixtures include:
- Sunderland, newly promoted to the Premier League for the first time since 2016-17, hosting West Ham.
- Championship winners Leeds facing Everton at Elland Road in the Monday night match.
- Burnley, back in the top flight at the first time of asking, visiting Europa League holders Tottenham, now under the management of Thomas Frank.
- Manchester City, looking to bounce back from a rare trophyless season, starting away to Wolves at Molineux.
Everton fans will have to wait until the second round of matches for their first home fixture at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, where they will face Brighton.
The 2025-26 season will span 380 matches across 33 weekends and five midweek rounds, concluding on Sunday, 24 May.
