William Troost-Ekong is marking a decade of service to the Nigerian national team, celebrating ten years since making his senior international debut with the Super Eagles.

The 31-year-old defender first donned the green and white jersey on 13 June 2015, playing the full 90 minutes in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Chad.

Over the past decade, Troost-Ekong has become a key figure in Nigerian football. He has featured in three AFCON tournaments (2019, 2021, and 2023) and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Most notably, he captained the Super Eagles to a runner-up finish at the 2023 AFCON, scoring three goals and earning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

In addition to his senior achievements, Troost-Ekong was part of the Nigerian U-23 squad that won bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics under coach Samson Siasia.

Reflecting on his journey, the centre-back took to social media platform X to share a heartfelt message of gratitude, paying tribute to late coach Stephen Keshi, who handed him his debut.

“10 YEARS REPRESENTING 🇳🇬 13.06.2015 – 06.06.2025
I will never forget the ‘Big Boss’ Stephen Keshi for believing in me to make my debut in Kaduna that day a decade ago.
79 caps, 5 major tournaments, 3 medals later. It is my biggest pride to be the captain of this nation and team.
No dream is ever too big. This is my purpose, and I will continue to strive to be better every day.
GRATEFUL!”

Troost-Ekong’s milestone is not only a personal triumph but also a testament to his enduring commitment and leadership in Nigerian football.
