Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £62.5 million, after activating his release clause.
The 26-year-old becomes United’s first signing of the summer, agreeing to a five-year contract with an option for an additional year. Cunha will take the No.10 shirt, last worn by Marcus Rashford—strongly indicating Rashford could depart Old Trafford this summer.
“Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha,” read a club statement.
“The Brazilian forward’s signing is subject to visa and registration.”
Cunha’s move will be completed following the conclusion of his international duty with Brazil, pending visa approval and final registration.
Impressive Track Record

The Brazilian international has 13 senior caps and brings a wealth of experience, having made 270 club appearances across top leagues in England, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland, scoring 72 goals in total.

During his time at Wolves, Cunha found the net 33 times in 92 games, including 17 goals in the 2024/25 season alone. His performances at Molineux made him one of the most consistent forwards outside the traditional top-six sides.
Career Journey
Cunha began his senior career at FC Sion in Switzerland before moving to RB Leipzig and later Hertha Berlin in Germany. He joined Atletico Madrid in 2021, then moved to Wolves—initially on loan—in January 2023. His move was made permanent that summer for around £35 million.
At United, Cunha is expected to bring added versatility to the attack, capable of playing both as a striker and an attacking midfielder.
More Moves Expected at Old Trafford
With Ruben Amorim set to be backed in the transfer market following United’s worst-ever Premier League season, more signings are expected. Reports suggest United have also held talks with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo, valued at around £50 million.
As United look to revamp their frontline, Matheus Cunha could prove to be a transformative addition to their attack next season.
