Former Manchester United and Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is poised to take over at Bayer Leverkusen, replacing Xabi Alonso, who is set to join Real Madrid this summer.
The news was revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reported on Thursday via X:
“Bayer Leverkusen made progress in talks with Erik ten Hag to become their new head coach. Ten Hag has given his total availability after direct contact took place earlier this week.”

Ten Hag has been out of work since his departure from Manchester United in November. Ajax recently attempted to reappoint the Dutchman following Francesco Farioli’s exit, which was reportedly due to disagreements with the club’s board.

Ajax technical director Alex Kroes confirmed holding talks with Ten Hag last weekend but declined to provide further details.
If finalized, the move to Leverkusen marks a fresh chapter for Ten Hag at one of Europe’s most exciting clubs.
