One of the clubs involved is Segunda División side UD Almería, who are aiming for promotion to La Liga next season. Currently sixth in the standings with two matches remaining, Almería are on track to enter the promotion play-offs, while Levante and Elche occupy the automatic promotion spots.
Ronaldo’s discussions with Almería are reportedly linked to Saudi businessman Mohamed Al-Khereiji, who played a major role in bringing the Portuguese star to Al-Nassr in 2022. Al-Khereiji recently acquired Almería through a Saudi investment group, potentially paving the way for Ronaldo to buy shares in the club—though this move may hinge on the team’s return to La Liga.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s playing future remains uncertain as his contract with Al-Nassr nears its end. The 39-year-old has reportedly received offers from clubs in Brazil, Turkey, and his boyhood team, Sporting CP.
Ronaldo is expected to finish the 2024–25 season without silverware, after Al-Nassr were eliminated from the AFC Champions League and currently sit third in the Saudi Pro League. Reports suggest he may opt not to renew his deal due to the club’s struggles to attract top-tier talent and compete consistently for major titles.
