Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has described Kylian Mbappé’s departure as a “shame” but believes his current team is stronger without the French star.
Enrique made the remarks after PSG’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Wednesday, which secured their place in the final against Inter Milan on May 31.
Mbappé left PSG last summer to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, ending a long-running saga.

“I think I was very brave last season when I said we’d have a better team without Mbappé—and I still believe that,” Enrique told @TouchlineX. “The stats support us.”
He added, “Mbappé’s departure was a shame, but the players took it as a challenge. I would have loved to continue with him, but the team is responding at a high level. Personally, I’d prefer four players scoring 12 goals each than relying on one to get 40.”
With the Champions League final on the horizon, Enrique will hope his rebalanced squad can finish the season on a high.
