Real Madrid veteran Lucas Vazquez will depart the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this summer due to the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to reports.
The Liverpool defender confirmed his decision to leave his boyhood club on Monday and is set to join Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June. Madrid are even exploring the possibility of signing him before the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
It has long been speculated that Alexander-Arnold was destined for Madrid, especially after the England international chose not to follow Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in signing a new deal with Liverpool.

Madrid have been actively seeking defensive reinforcements following an injury-plagued season and reportedly considered signing Alexander-Arnold in January after Dani Carvajal suffered a season-ending ACL injury in October.
With both Alexander-Arnold and Carvajal now competing for minutes at right-back, Vazquez, who has been a long-term servant to the club, will not be part of the equation next season.
Spanish outlet AS reports that Vazquez will leave Madrid this summer when his contract expires. The 33-year-old signed a one-year extension last year and has been a reliable presence, particularly during Carvajal’s absence. However, with Alexander-Arnold’s arrival, Vazquez is set to exit the club.
Having joined Madrid’s youth academy in 2007 at the age of 16, Vazquez has made 397 appearances for the senior team. Initially a winger, he has been converted into a right-back in recent years.
But with the arrival of Alexander-Arnold, the club’s long-serving academy graduate is now surplus to requirements and will leave on a free transfer at the end of June.
